This past weekend marked a milestone for my duo partner, cellist Brendon Phelps, and me. Over the last two months, we immersed ourselves in the complete works for cello and piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff, a deeply rewarding journey through some of the most passionate and expansive chamber music in the repertoire.
Preparing this program has been both invigorating and transformative. From the sweeping lyricism of the Sonata to the intimacy and character of the shorter works, this music invites audiences into a richly emotional sound world that feels as fresh and compelling today as ever.
We began with an intimate preview performance at my home in West Akron for a select circle of arts patrons and friends. The evening sharpened our interpretive ideas and built anticipation for the official debut. On Sunday, we brought the full program to a sold out audience on the Music from The Western Reserve series in Hudson. The response was overwhelming and affirmed both the enduring power of this repertoire and the impact of presenting it as a complete artistic statement.
We are deeply grateful to our program sponsors, Nancy Dotson, Madeline Lepidi-Carino, and the Hudson Community Foundation, for their generous support in bringing this project to life.
We are now offering this complete Rachmaninoff program for the 2026 to 2027 season, a program that has already proven to resonate strongly with audiences.
If you are interested in presenting our program, we would love to bring this experience to your series. Please contact me directly at contact@alexandremarr.com to learn more!
